Yuri (Gomberg) Sobolev is a participant of numerous domestic and foreign festivals known as a brilliant pianist working
at different musical fields. Having made his jazz debut with the trio on the "Jazz on the Neva" in 1987, he
became an outstanding musician of the SPb musical background.
He is known as a Dixieland pianist, big-band musician, rag time performer, different dance music arrange men,
theater music composer and director.
In 1992 he was offered to work at the Telonius Monk Institute (Oslo, Norway), where he taught improvisation
classes up to 1994.
Being a great admirer of the canadian Oscar Peterson mastery, Yuri all the time tried to gain
his masterly performing rapidity, after gaining this he started to add to the play list the compositions
of the great musician. While working on his Rag times Yuri improved his performing technique so well,
that now he is truly called "the king of rag times". There are also many stories and a legend about the musician's
left hand: it is said to be convalesced from any diseases or illnesses or even feeling healing
effect watching his left hand playing. His masterly play and rich artistic diapason make Sobolev's
performing astounding and unexpected: one can't stop admiring his retro jazz music both with
grotesque polka or mock potpourri with lyrical ballad.
Yuri is working now on different bi-band and solo projects. His tenderness and artistic flexibility did a great job in
relations with his colleagues , that's why we can see Yuri anywhere he can be musically useful : at concert hall, art-club
performance or just piano-playing. He is also very popular as the ball-room musician. Both fans and art critics notes his
unusual performing manner of "speaking pianist": Yuri does two roles of pianist and compere at one time. That makes
concerts amazing, interactive and unforgettable, public takes the performing role as the musician, wherever concert is
held-concert hall or art-club stage.

Yuri's creative work manner (at any process, including studio recording) and his never-ending life energy helped
to release wonderful album "Jewish rag time", while listening a person can hear applauses and public
exclamation both with music recorded. It doesn't happen often to take part at the recording process and show
your own emotions loudly and expressively with giving no attention to the signal light "Silence please!" near by.
